As fall rolls into the area, many homeowners are thinking about the home maintenance that comes with fall. Although many people assume fall maintenance starts and ends outside of their homes, there are some things you should do inside as well. Let’s take a look at some fall carpet cleaning tips for your home.
Get Your Carpets Professionally Cleaned
When was the last time you had your carpets professionally cleaned? While carpet cleaning is not season specific, if you cannot remember the last time you had them cleaned, it could be time to have them done. You should have your carpets professionally cleaned once per year. Carpet cleaning is not a DIY project you should attempt on the weekend. So if you haven’t cleaned them this year, fall is as good a time as any to get your carpets cleaned.
Blot Stains, Don’t Rub Them
One of the most common mistakes homeowners make when cleaning up a spill on their carpet is to rub them away. Rubbing will actually cause the stain to set into your carpet fibers. Instead of rubbing, blog up the stain with a paper towel or cloth and some cleaning products.
Try Club Soda
Do you remember when people in movies insisted on cleaning their shirts with club soda after a spill? Well, it really does work. Club soda is cleaning’s best-kept secret. Blotting up a stain with club soda, working outward and moving inward, your stain will soon disappear. It may take more than one application, but it will work for most stains including that wine your crazy aunt spilled on the carpet on Fourth of July.
Institute a No Shoes Policy
As the wet leaves start to fall this autumn, it can only mean one thing: mud and wet leaves on your carpet. Instead of risking mold, mildew, and mud on your carpet, insist people coming in take off their shoes. Simply place a doormat at each door and ask people to take off their shoes and place them on a mat or in a bin next to the door. Keep your carpet beautiful and leave the mess where it belongs: outside!
