Along with summertime comes an increase in rainfall. Whereas you had to deal with salt from the roads and melted snow in the winter, now you’ll have to deal with muddy shoes and paws mucking up your flooring. Whether you have hardwood, carpet, or tile, it will be vitally important that you take steps towards keeping your floors sparklingly healthy. Don’t worry though, we are here with tips. Summer flooring maintenance is a breeze with a little bit of preventative care and proper cleaning techniques.
Create a Clean Zone
The best way to stop mud from becoming a problem in the summertime is to stop it before it has the chance to enter your home. Some people are blessed with the gift of a mud room for just such a purpose, but others have to make do with what they have. This can be accomplished with a bristled welcome mat, and a makeshift foyer. Lay down an absorbent mat so that guests and family members can wipe off or remove their shoes before they come in and stain your carpet. Studies show that these types of mats can catch up to 80 percent of dirt before it can wreak havoc on your floors. This can get even tougher when you are trying to corral mud-soaked pets. Create a quarantine pen by your door with baby gates and a few towels when you know your pet is going to be extra unclean.
When tough outdoor stains are allowed to set into your floors, cleaning will undoubtedly become a greater challenge. Your carpet could become permanently stained, and you may risk scratching your wood or tiles as you chip off hardened mud. The key here is to do your best to notice stains as they are happening. Often times, with a little bit of warm water and diligence, you’ll be able to safely clean your flooring before any major problems arise.
