4 Easy Carpet Maintenance Tips

You just bought a beautiful new carpet and you don’t want it to get ruined. So what should you do? This article from HGTV.com provides you with four easy steps to keep your carpets looking new for longer.

  1. The first thing you should do is take off your shoes. Try to get in the habit of removing your shoes every time you enter your home. This will eliminate carpet contamination from dirt, mud and other items that may be stuck to the souls of your shoes.
  2. You should vacuum carpeted areas at least two times a week – more if the room gets a lot of foot traffic. And make sure you properly maintain your vacuum. Always change the bag before it gets full and make sure you remove debris from the brushes. Also, wipe the vacuum with a little white vinegar to keep it dust free. And always check the hose to see if any obstruction is blocking the airflow before starting it up. These simple steps will keep your vacuum working great and your carpets looking pristine.
  3. Keep a carpet cleaning kit close by.  This kit should include: a lint-free rag to blot spills, a bottle of liquid or dry carpet cleaner, a plastic scraper and a soft-bristle brush.
  4. Shut your blinds or drapes. UV rays can drastically age your carpet, which will really make a difference with darker colored carpets.
