Maintaining Your Hardwood Floors

Hardwood floors are generally easy to maintain. Neglecting your hardwood floors, on the other hand, can be disastrous. Water, scuffmarks, scratches and sunlight can quickly turn your beautiful hardwood into a warped and discolored mess. But with a little TLC, you can keep your flooring looking great for years upon years.

This article from TLC Home explains how you can keep your hardwood looking like new.

The number one thing to remember is that water and hardwood floors do not mix. Water can cause your flooring to warp, shift and loose its luster. If you encounter a leak or spill, address the situation right away. Wipe up the liquid and plug up the source of the leak. Never us a wet mop on hardwood flooring.

Additionally, sweep up any dirt or debris that may have found its way onto your flooring and remember to only use cleaners that are safe on wood floors.

If you have a high traffic area, like a hallway or living room, consider placing an area rug over your hardwood. This will significantly extend the life of your flooring.

One last thing to remember is that sunlight can discolor your beautiful hardwood flooring. So pay attention to areas of your floor that get a lot of direct light. Consider placing a rug in this area or simply close the blinds more often.

If you take good care of your hardwood flooring, it will last a lifetime (with only periodic refinishing). If you have any questions, contact Jim Boyd’s Flooring America by calling 410-667-0620 or click here today!
